Piano Noir & Blanc

____ Musical video

Project overview

We had the pleasure of working with the talented pianist Sorie, who played one of his pieces on the piano. For this video, the musician wanted a pure black and white style. This minimalist approach allowed us to focus on texture and materials, creating a raw, authentic effect that perfectly conveys the musician's intentions.

The choice of black and white for this music video highlights the purity of Sorie's music. The absence of distracting colours helps to focus attention on the sonic and visual details, accentuating the emotion and intensity of the song being performed. Every note played, every movement of the hands on the keyboard is highlighted in this sober, elegant aesthetic.

The making of this clip respects the musician's wish to create a visual work that is both simple and profound. By concentrating on the essential elements, we were able to capture the essence of his performance. The texture of the black and white images adds an extra dimension, underlining the sensitivity and expressiveness of his music.

Process

The first step was a meeting with the pianist to understand his expectations and vision. He shared with us his inspirations, aesthetic preferences and the mood he wanted for the video. This exchange was crucial in aligning our ideas and ensuring that the final product would live up to his expectations. We therefore developed a creative concept centred on the textures and movements of the pianist's hands. The idea was to capture the intimacy and finesse of his playing, highlighting the details that convey his virtuosity and emotion.

The filming took place indoors, in a space that offered ideal acoustics and a warm atmosphere. The choice of location created a good, concentrated atmosphere, conducive to showcasing the artist and his piano.

We took advantage of the daylight to light the stage. By working against the light, we were able to create some interesting visual effects, playing with shadows and reflections to accentuate the movements of the pianist's hands on the piano keys.

During the shoot, we were particularly interested in the textures and movements of the artist's hands. Using close-ups and fluid camera movements, we captured the delicacy and precision of her playing.
