____ DANSE VIDEO

Project overview

For Kino Lyon's monthly competition, we made a dance film on the theme of denial. We chose to illustrate the mentality that can be adopted when faced with a sports injury. It's often difficult to agree to rest when you're passionate about physical activity. This short film is in three parts.

In the first part, the dancer is in denial about the pain she is feeling and continues to work hard despite her injury. The second part shows her in denial, giving up dancing altogether. Finally, in the last part, she returns to her old dance studio, confronted with her old belongings. With 20 days to go before the audition, she decides to start dancing again, using an alternative method: half-points.

Our message is designed to highlight the importance of listening to your body during physical effort. However, we also wanted to convey a message of hope: although it is crucial to listen to your body's signals, an injury is not an end in itself. In sport, there are always alternatives.

Process

The project was produced entirely at la Caverne de l'image. We wrote the script and shot with a small crew of five: the actress, two assistants for lighting and camera, and our production team. The shoot went off without a hitch over two days on our premises. For this short film, we used a complete technical set-up including four Aputure projectors, a crane and a Blackmagic camera.

We then presented our project at Kino Lyon, where it was shown on the big screen at the MJC in Monplaisir, Lyon.
